This was a shot I took of William Burroughs in London at a BBC taping of a production we did of the Chicago 7 Conspiracy Trial. Burroughs played Judge Julius Hoffman, and I played Abbie Hoffman. I hadn't been warned yet of his superstitious aversion to being photographed. We worked with him some on a stage production Naked Lunch, though I always found it hard not to stare at him, particularly when he was smoking. His hands and arms consistently moved on straight angles - straight up.stop.straight in.inhale.straight out.straight down.exhale. All very alien I thought. |
